McFly's Harry Judd to Star in London Production of High School Musical
High School Musical Returns to London with McFly Star

The beloved Disney phenomenon High School Musical is set to return to the London stage later this year, with McFly drummer Harry Judd taking on the role of Coach Bolton. This marks the first fully British production of the stage adaptation of the iconic 2000s film.

A New Chapter for a Cultural Phenomenon

Originally released as a low-budget made-for-TV movie, High School Musical became a massive hit, spawning two sequels, launching the career of Zac Efron, and leading to numerous spin-offs. One such spin-off, the stage musical, has not been seen in London since 2008, when the film's popularity was at its peak. Now, nearly two decades later, a new production will bring the story back to British audiences.

Harry Judd Takes the Court

Harry Judd, best known as the drummer for the pop-rock band McFly, will portray Coach Jack Bolton, the father of the male lead, Troy Bolton. McFly rose to fame around the same time as High School Musical, and their music often reflected a similar reverence for American high school culture. Judd's casting adds a nostalgic touch for fans of both the band and the franchise.

Production Details

The production will debut in Salford over the summer, with Jason Donovan originally playing Coach Bolton, before transferring to London for a lengthy run at the Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre. This venue was recently vacated by the musical Starlight Express after a two-year residency. The London performances are scheduled from October 12, 2026, to January 3, 2027.

Whether this revival will appeal to millennial nostalgia or captivate a new generation remains to be seen. Audiences will have the chance to decide when the show opens this autumn.
