Get Baked Viral Cake Shop Opens First London Branch in Covent Garden
Get Baked Opens First London Store in Covent Garden

Viral bakery Get Baked, known for its towering 24-layer Bertha cake, is set to open its first store in London. Owner Rich Myers confirmed he's bringing the brand to Covent Garden this summer, teasing a potential opening date of July.

Though details are being kept under wraps for now, the 37-year-old appears to have teamed up with speciality popcorn shop Godfrey's on Tavistock Street. Announcing the news on social media, Rich said: "I'm here to prove that a screenshot from the notes app on my iPhone reaches more people than a high production value reel that costs £££ and takes 6 weeks to execute. We're opening a store in Covent Garden. Lots of exciting news to reveal in due course...See you there." The central location will be "a new concept, littered with nostalgia," he added.

From Leeds to London

Founded in 2011, Get Baked began life in Rich's family kitchen in Leeds before being catapulted into global recognition thanks to trademark cheeky posts highlighting its larger-than-life bakes. People travelled from across the UK to visit the original shopfront in Headingley until its shock closure in February.

The signature Bertha cake, as well as pies, brownies and cookies, are still available at a Manchester branch and online, where orders sell out within minutes of going on sale. The move into the capital follows a pop-up in department store Fortnum & Mason in 2024.

Fan Excitement

The exciting news sent devotees of the cakery into overdrive, with one excited fan writing: "Omg is this true? Don't toy with me!" Another said: "This makes being the London office a very dangerous place", while a third shared: "Take ALL my money!"

Elsewhere in London, Camberwell favourite TOAD Bakery is launching a second location next month. The sister site at the entrance of Deptford Market Yard will welcome customers from June.
