Another week, another episode of Euphoria that has stirred controversy. In the third episode of the season, the outrage centers less on Sydney Sweeney's character Cassie and her OnlyFans pursuits and more on her now-husband Nate, played by Jacob Elordi. Their highly anticipated wedding, complete with $50,000 worth of floral arrangements, unfolded in a ceremony as gaudy as the couple's crumbling Los Angeles home. As expected, the wedding did not go according to plan.
Spoilers for Euphoria Season 3 Episode 3 Ahead
Instead of returning home to a bed of rose petals and chilled champagne, Nate and Cassie found a different surprise. Remember the menacing Naz, played by Jack Topalian, from the previous episode? Nate had met with him and promised to repay outstanding debts. However, the payment schedule apparently did not satisfy Naz, so he decided to take something from Nate for himself.
In violent scenes at the end of the latest episode, Naz and his associates broke into the couple's home and waited for their return. Then they attacked. After beating Nate nearly to death in front of a crying, screaming Cassie, Naz produced a pair of pruning shears. Nate was pinned down, and the smallest toe on one of his feet was promptly severed. The episode ended there.
Fan Reactions to the Gruesome Scene
The gruesome scene left many Euphoria fans struggling to watch. Taking to social media, Katherine tweeted: 'Me seeing Nate get his pinky toe removed like don't f*** with the mob but I flinched so hard.' Another user wrote: 'They did not just cut off Nate toe but also squeeze his d***??? SAM LEVINSON WHAT THE??? ?' Haina demanded: 'YO EUPHORIA WHY TF IS HE CUTTING NATES TOE OFF,' while Jehanne questioned: 'Why was it so gory we didn't have to see everything bro I couldn't even watch.'
However, given Nate's past as a literal psycho in seasons one and two, not everyone in the fandom was upset about his toe being lopped off. One fan wrote: 'This made me so happy all shade. Imma sleep good tonight knowing that man is missing a toe.' Another viewer added: 'Am I supposed to feel bad for Nate and Cassie? Cause I don't lmaooo cut his whole foot off.'
Euphoria is available to watch on HBO Max, NOW, and Sky in the UK.
