The Guildford Arms, a historic pub in Greenwich, will close permanently this Sunday, September 27, at 5pm. The business announced the closure to customers, noting the pub will remain open throughout the week to allow patrons to say their final goodbyes.
A 175-Year Legacy Ends
The pub has been a fixture of the Greenwich community for generations, operating as a pub since at least 1851, giving it a documented history spanning 175 years. The locally listed building, situated within the Ashburnham Triangle Conservation Area, dates back to around 1840.
In recent years, the venue gained a reputation as a popular gastropub after being taken over by chef Guy Awford and Jon Hallett in 2009. Its former first-floor restaurant, Upstairs, was recognised by the Michelin Guide, Harden's and the Good Food Guide.
National Recognition and Community Support
The pub also received national recognition when it was named London Dining Pub of the Year in The Good Pub Guide 2018.
On the business website, the team wrote: "We'd like to thank all of our customers, neighbours and friends for their incredible support."
Final Week of Service
The closure marks the end of an era for the Ashburnham Triangle area, with the pub having served as a community hub for over a century and a half. Customers have been invited to visit during the final week to bid farewell to the establishment.
