Molly-Mae Hague has spoken candidly about being 'severely humbled' by the backlash she received for her outfit at Venezuela Fury’s wedding to Noah Price earlier this month. The Fury family hosted an extravagant celebration for the teenage couple, who were married at the Victorian Royal Chapel of St John’s on the Isle of Man, where the legal marriage age is 16.
Wedding Attendance and Criticism
Among the 120 guests were a heavily pregnant Hague and her three-year-old daughter Bambi, who had been asked to serve as a bridesmaid. However, in a new YouTube vlog, the 27-year-old former Love Island star revealed she had not anticipated the negative comments she would receive for wearing black to the wedding and for attending with her brown hair roots visible.
'I got severely humbled in the comments,' Hague said while speaking to the camera in her car. 'Which, to be fair I don’t know why I didn’t expect, because the whole time I was saying to myself, if I do go and I haven’t given birth by then, I was like, I don’t care what I look like.'
Her Explanation
Hague explained that she wanted to 'honour' Bambi being asked to be a bridesmaid and to make an appearance for her partner Tommy Fury’s family. 'Obviously if you can, that’s what you do,' she added. Referring to her black jumpsuit with a bodice cut-out, Hague said: 'I actually did put a bit of thought into it. I did get that jumpsuit tailored and everything.'
'But the hair, I actually had my hair done in the morning. I had this really gorgeous bun but I ended up taking the bun out and just slicking my own bun back. You can see my hair bobble, my roots.' Showing her hair to the camera, she continued: 'My hair is a whole different conversation at the minute. What I am going to do about my hair, I don’t know. It’s grown out so much, to the point where, do I just accept that I might have to go to being a brunette? Surely not.'
Spiralling Over Comments
Hague admitted she had 'a bit of a spiral' the previous morning. 'I just don’t know why I didn’t think that… I should have thought there’s probably going to be pictures and videos that will come out. In my head I was just thinking about the wedding and obviously it’s their day. It’s about them.'
Despite the criticism, she expressed happiness that she and Bambi attended, noting that her daughter was in her element. 'It was such a nice day and I fear that Bambi will never ever get over it. I think she genuinely thought she was in a dream.'
Wedding Attire Etiquette
Hague also questioned the criticism over wearing black to a wedding. 'Since when is it not acceptable to wear black to a wedding? I genuinely never thought that. I saw the comments saying “I can’t believe she wore black”. I didn’t know you couldn’t wear black to a wedding. I know technically it’s more of a funeral colour but I just think, as long as it’s not white and it’s smart.'
The wedding of Venezuela Fury, sister of boxer Tommy Fury, was a lavish affair that drew significant media attention. Hague’s vlog has since sparked discussions about wedding attire etiquette and the pressures of public scrutiny.
