Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Tuesday's (May 26) episode that is now available to view on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 at 7pm.
Liberty Savage (Jessamy Stoddart) has waved goodbye to the eponymous village, setting off on a new adventure after being reminded of fond memories from her time in New Zealand.
The beloved show favourite, as viewers know, has had a tough year – even by Hollyoaks' standards of trauma – with her fiancé Jeremy Blake (Jeremy Sheffield) turning out to be a twisted serial killer, who – in addition to claiming the lives of several show favourites – cheated on her numerous times. And just when Lib was finally coming to terms with such a thing, her sister Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) was arrested for the 'murder' of Clare Devine (Gemma Bissix) – just hours after holding Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin) hostage at her killer father's shed. Talk about traumatic.
In the aftermath of Sienna's arrest, Liberty has been running the flower stall, assisting in looking after niece and nephew Sophie and Sebastian Blake, all the while trying to come to terms with the murderous antics of her beloved sis. But after she broke down on a night out with old mate Theresa McQueen (Jorgie Porter), Lib decided to take a chance on happiness, resolving to move to New Zealand, where she was most happiest.
Seizing the day, the songwriter packed up her suitcases and bid farewell to her loved ones, telling Sophie and Sebastian just how much she loves them. Dodger Savage (Danny Mac) was unsure at first of Liberty's decision but he ultimately realised that she was being 'brave' and thus gave her his blessing in chasing her dreams. In emotional final scenes, our Lib handed the keys of the flower stall over to Theresa, leaving the business in her capable hands as she left the eponymous village in search of true happiness.
And in a twist fitting of true romantic Liberty, she assisted Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) and Warren Fox (Jamie Lomas) in taking another shot at romance too, encouraging them to reunite. The question is: will Liberty find what she's looking for overseas?
Actress Jessamy Stoddart is heading off on maternity leave so we'll no doubt find out what's in store for the character upon her return.
