South London Welcomes a New Free Art and Short Film Festival
A vibrant new artist-led festival is set to arrive in south London next month, offering a completely free celebration of creativity. The WePresent festival, organized by the team behind WeTransfer, will transform Peckham's Copeland Gallery from May 8th through May 10th.
A Three-Day Creative Extravaganza
The three-day event promises an immersive experience featuring panel discussions with established artists and directors, alongside curated exhibitions showcasing commissioned works from the WePresent arts platform. Attendees can explore diverse artistic expressions through various mediums and engage with thought-provoking conversations about contemporary creative practices.
Highlight Exhibitions and Installations
Central to the festival is an exhibition titled 'On Belonging', which presents artworks exploring themes of identity and community connection. Additionally, a dedicated library room will feature special publications like NOUR, a poetry book created in collaboration with artist Mustafa. A pop-up cinema will screen a selection of compelling short films throughout the event.
Perfect for Students and Creative Minds
This festival represents an essential destination for students, emerging artists, and creative Londoners seeking inspiration and networking opportunities. The inclusive atmosphere encourages connection among like-minded individuals while providing access to high-quality artistic content without financial barriers.
Complimentary Refreshments and Treats
Recognizing that creativity requires sustenance, the festival organizers have arranged complimentary offerings throughout the weekend. Peckham Social will serve free cocktails daily from 5-7 PM, while Sela Rose provides morning brunch each day. Attendees can also enjoy ice-cream sandwiches from Happy Endings, making the experience both culturally and gastronomically satisfying.
WePresent's Legacy of Supporting Talent
The WePresent platform has a proven track record of nurturing artistic talent, having supported filmmakers such as Akinola Davies Jr. (My Father's Shadow) and Amrou Al-Kadhi (Layla). The platform also commissioned The Long Goodbye, an Oscar-winning short film starring and co-written by Riz Ahmed, demonstrating its commitment to excellence in creative production.
This festival continues that tradition by bringing exceptional artistic content directly to the London community in an accessible format. Follow WePresent on Instagram for additional details and updates about this exciting cultural event.
