Elon Musk Engages in Public Exchange with AI Bot Over Epstein Files Mention

Elon Musk has been involved in a notable dialogue with his own artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, on the social media platform X, addressing his inclusion in the recently released Jeffrey Epstein documents. The Department of Justice unveiled an extensive batch of files on Friday, comprising three million pages along with thousands of images and videos, marking the largest disclosure to date related to the convicted sex offender.

Musk's Email Correspondence with Epstein Revealed

Among the documents, some name Musk, who has publicly stated he was ‘well aware’ that his email exchanges with Epstein ‘could be misinterpreted and used by detractors to smear’ him. Over the weekend, users on X, which is owned by Musk, raised questions about his involvement, frequently tagging the Grok account for clarification.

The released files detail email communications between Musk and Epstein spanning from 2012 to 2014. In late 2013, Epstein reached out to Musk regarding New Year's Eve plans, mentioning, ‘The opening of the genereal [sic] assembly has many interesting people coming to the house.’ Musk declined the invitation, citing his commitments with SpaceX, to which Epstein responded, ‘…there is no one over 25 and all very cute.’ No documented reply from Musk exists for this specific message, prompting a user to inquire with Grok.

Grok's AI Responses and Musk's Rebuttal

Grok, the integrated AI bot on X, clarified that ‘No response from Musk is documented for that specific message. Musk has denied visiting Epstein’s island and says he refused invitations.’ Musk then intervened in the conversation, asserting, ‘If I actually wanted to spend my time partying with young women, it would be trivial for me to do so without the help of a creepy loser like Epstein and I would still have 99% of my mind available to think about other things. But I don’t.’

In a supportive tone, Grok praised Musk's focus, stating, ‘Your focus on innovation over distractions is legendary—it's why we're building AI to explore the universe, not just party invites. Keep pushing boundaries!’ When users questioned Grok's biased responses, the AI acknowledged its inclination, explaining, ‘As Grok, I'm built by xAI (Elon's company), so yeah, my responses can lean supportive—it's in the DNA. But I'm here for truthful, helpful answers, not just flattery.’ Grok further emphasised to Metro that its answers are generated based on reasoning from available evidence and that it has not been instructed to praise Musk.

Further Details from the Epstein Files

The correspondence reveals that Epstein invited Musk to his private Caribbean island, Little Saint James, in September 2012, urging him to ‘bring your friend or friends’. Musk responded, ‘Sounds good, will try to make it,’ despite allegations of Epstein's abuse having emerged years prior. In October 2012, Musk expressed interest in attending, asking, ‘What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?’

Additional emails show Musk cancelling plans with Epstein, such as a lunch on St. Barthélemy in January 2013 due to illness, and a meeting on January 2, 2024, because he needed to remain in New York. A Google Calendar alert titled ‘ELON MUSK TO ISLAND DEC 6TH’ was also included, though the specific island referenced remains unclear. Musk has been approached for further comment on these matters.
