M&S Launches 'Nutrient Dense' Food Range for Weight Loss Jab Users
M&S new food range for weight loss medication users

Marks & Spencer has announced a major new food range specifically crafted to support the growing number of Britons using weight loss injections such as Ozempic and Mounjaro. The retailer's 'Nutrient Dense' line, launching in January, targets customers who may struggle to get essential vitamins and minerals due to reduced appetite from the medications.

What's in the M&S Nutrient Dense Range?

The collection features 20 different items, including salads, snacks, and ready meals, all set to hit shelves from January 5, 2026. Developed with wholefoods, each product is fortified with at least one of ten key micronutrients, such as iron, vitamin D, folate, and vitamin B12.

Highlighted products include a Cocoa Chia Mousse, Roasted Butternut and Almond Grains, and a Satay Chicken and Black Rice Mango Salad. The range also introduces an innovative H₅O shot, a blend of coconut water, ginger juice, and five unique botanicals verified by scientists at Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens.

Grace Ricotti, Head of Food Nutrition at M&S, explained the thinking behind the launch. "With the increase in popularity of weight-loss injections, a reduced appetite can mean missing out on important nutrients," she said. "We challenged ourselves to make products that are denser in nutrients than calories."

The Rise of GLP-1 Medications and Retail Response

The launch directly responds to the surge in use of GLP-1 agonist drugs, which suppress appetite. It is estimated that around two million people in the UK are now using these medications, creating a new consumer need for nutrient-rich, lower-calorie foods.

Ricotti emphasised the range's focus on fibre, crucial for digestion and long-term health. Products like the Super Seeded Oaty Bread contain 13g of fibre in just two slices, helping customers move towards the recommended 30g daily intake.

Supermarket Competition Heats Up

M&S is not alone in spotting this trend. Rival supermarket Morrisons is also launching a dedicated range called 'Applied Nutrition' in early January. Its 'Small & Balanced' meals, starting from £3.75, are portion-controlled and designed for those on a weight loss journey with medication.

The Morrisons line, available from January 2, 2026, includes 53 items, with seven core meals like spaghetti and meatballs and cottage pie. Lizzy Massey, Own Brand Director at Morrisons, stated the range was a "natural step forward" to support customers improving their health and wellness.

While M&S has not yet confirmed pricing for its Nutrient Dense line, the move by two major retailers signals a significant shift in the UK food market, adapting to evolving health and pharmaceutical trends.
