Zara trousers called 'deadly' trip hazard by shoppers

Zara's £25.99 Flowing Wide-Leg Trousers have sparked a wave of complaints after shoppers reported injuries from tripping over the garment. The brand, known for trendy and affordable fashion, now faces backlash as viral TikTok videos show cuts, bruises, and even concussions resulting from the design.

Thousands of TikTok videos highlight the danger

At the time of writing, the hashtag #Zaratrousers has over 2,000 TikTok videos, with many users sharing their falls. Creator Morgana's clip, viewed 2.3 million times, shows a scraped elbow, busted knee, and a smashed phone. Another user, Lina, joked: 'There should be a Netflix documentary about these pants. Fave pants ever but I almost died like eight times while wearing them.' Her video has over two million views.

Fashion experts explain the hazard

Emile Vidal Carr, an award-winning fashion design director, told Metro: 'They can catch on bicycle chains, escalators, machinery, or other moving equipment. And the extra fabric may cause you to trip, especially on stairs or uneven ground.' Personal stylist Clare Chambers added: 'The wider the leg, the more likely it is to get caught and wrapped around the opposite leg/foot causing the wearer to trip and fall. It's impossible to free the trapped foot quickly enough to break the fall, hence why the Zara trousers are subject to much criticism; you literally face-plant.'

Not just a Zara problem

Wide-leg trousers remain a major trend, with many high street brands stocking similar designs. Chambers noted: 'They are the trouser shape of summer '26 simply because the persisting heatwave means they're the most elegant, cooling way of dressing.' However, the flimsy fabric and loose fit make them particularly risky. Metro reached out to Zara for comment but has not received a response.
